By Andrew T. Bell, Esq.
For many of us the New Year provides the opportunity to look back, reflect and give thanks for what went well in the last 12 months. While a period of celebration for some, this time can also highlight everything that never made it off of the to do list, no matter how important the task. All too frequently those nagging to-do’s include some of life’s most important tasks, including handling your documents.
Recently Anderson & Labovitz Attorney Andrew Bell attempted to alleviate some of that stress by volunteering at two pro-bono clinics, providing legal services (and peace of mind) to members of the local LGBTQ+ community. These clinics, coordinated by the Hugh Lane Wellness Foundation, allowed for low-income members of the LGBTQ+ community to receive basic wills, powers of attorney, advance healthcare directives and legal name change petitions. These documents not only provided reassurance that clients’ affairs were taken care of but also guaranteed that they were able to greet 2025 with a legal name that accurately reflected their identity and gender presentation.
